  • Easy to adjust sweetness
  • Quick and easy
  • Kid approved and fun to make together!
Fresh watermelon scooped on a baking tray with a cup of watermelon juice and lemon in the background.

Components you need:

  • Watermelon (about 8-10 lbs)
  • Lime (fresh is best, but you can use bottled if needed)
  • Sweetened condensed milk (see below for substitution suggestions)
  • Salt (this helps balance the sweetness)

Healthy tips and alternatives:

  • Use light coconut milk Instead of sweetened condensed milk for a dairy-free tropical flavor. Add a little honey or maple syrup if necessary.
  • Limit added sugar By using less sweetened condensed milk or substituting it with plain Greek yogurt for a creamy, refreshing option.
  • Add a handful of frozen strawberries Or mango for extra flavor and a beautiful color boost!
  • Make it a lollipop: Pour the blended mixture into popsicle molds and freeze for an easy-to-use treat.
  • Let the kids help! Have young children scoop watermelon, add ingredients to a blender, or taste-test the sweetness.

  • Cut the watermelon in half and extract the fruit, reserving the watermelon juice. If desired, reserve half of the crust for serving.

  • Place the fruit on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone mat. Place it in the freezer for at least 4 hours. Keep preserved watermelon juice in a container in the refrigerator until needed.

  • Once the watermelon is frozen, take it out of the refrigerator and place it in the blender (not all of the watermelon will fit, you will have to do this in batches).

  • In a blender, add the juice of half a lemon, salt, and about half the sweetened condensed milk. Pour in about half of the reserved watermelon juice. Mix, pulsing if necessary, until smooth.

  • Continue adding more frozen watermelon to the blender along with additional sweetened condensed milk, lemon juice, and watermelon juice to your preferred taste and texture.

  • Pour into reserved watermelon rinds or individual serving dishes and enjoy! Store any leftovers in a sealed container in the refrigerator.
