Sourdough is ideal because it’s firm and slightly tart, but ciabatta, rye, white, or plain wheat bread works too!

Thick bacon adds better texture and flavor, but thinner cuts work if cooked until crispy.

BLTs are best fresh. If necessary, prepare ingredients separately and assemble just before serving.
How do I keep my BLT from becoming soggy?
Toast the bread well, dry the tomatoes, and place a layer of lettuce between the bread and tomatoes.
Is BLT healthy?
It can be part of a balanced meal – use whole grain bread, light mayonnaise and add avocado or extra lettuce.

Start by cooking the bacon. I like to use thick cuts of bacon for this sandwich because there are so few ingredients, and each one really needs to be counted! My favorite way to cook thick cut bacon is in the oven because it’s so much less messy!
-
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, then line a tray with aluminum foil. Place each slice of bacon on the pan without overlapping. For thick bacon, cook for 12-14 minutes to get a perfectly crispy texture. We take it out of the oven, put it on a few sheets of paper towels, and leave it to cool.
-
While the bacon is cooking, rinse and dry the lettuce and slice the tomatoes. I love thick tomato slices for a BLT.
-
Toast the bread in the toaster until golden brown. Spread mayonnaise on the inside of each slice of toast. Assemble the sandwich starting with the lettuce, then the tomato slices, salt and pepper, then the bacon slices. Top with the other half of the bread. Cut the sandwich in half and enjoy!!
