MAN v FAT Swansea rugby players are gearing up for 2026, having already moved 250kg since the start.
The Swansea community has built a strong network of support for each other, which has seen a wealth of positive transformations.
As things come to a head in the new year, we caught up with Craig Yates and Chris Davies to find out how things are going.
What made you join MAN v FAT in the first place?
CD: “I just loved rugby. I played a lot in my youth and took a temporary break after Uni which became permanent. It was always a bit of a regret for me but watching my son train with his U11 team gave me the kick to see if I could find something I could call a comeback! The MAN v FAT match was an excellent opportunity to play with a great group of players and became something I looked forward to every week.”
CY: “I’ve always been fickle with my weight and when I saw that MAN v FAT Rugby had come to Swansea, it sparked my interest. I’d never played sport outside of school, so I was a bit nervous but when I realized you didn’t need that experience, I knew it was something I’d be interested in pursuing.”

How have you found it supports your weight loss efforts and well-being so far?
CD: “I got my 5% bonus in my first season and it’s been a good start to my second season. I find that having games on a Monday helps me stay honest over the weekend, and even though I haven’t cut anything, wanting to help the team with the scoring part is a motivator for me.”
CY: “The camaraderie between the players has really helped me feel encouraged and motivated to participate, especially if my progress has plateaued, we all hold each other accountable and support each other which I’ve never had in my personal diet and exercise before.”
What are the best aspects of being part of a community like MAN v FAT?
CD: “It’s good to be part of a team again and being around people with similar goals is good for everyone.”
CY: “A group of players is always helpful, but the excitement of being involved in a game and having the opportunity to go top of the league or win the cup is a huge incentive for someone with an ounce of competitiveness.”
What are your long-term health goals?
CD: “I would like to lose more weight. I’m a few kilos away from the lowest I’ve been since my school days but it’s more than the weight alone. It’s the knowledge that I can throw the ball with my kids and keep up with them when I do it. It’s the ability to pace them when they do junior parkrun and be healthier that helps me be a better example to them I’m convinced, and a better father too.”
CY: “Losing more weight and getting consistent healthy habits.”
