International Men’s Day in 2025 also saw the UK government launch its first ever men’s health strategy.
The strategy sets out the Government’s objectives to develop health services and supports for men and boys across the UK over the next ten years and beyond.
MAN v FAT engaged in lobbying and consultation to support the shape of the strategy and shared feedback from our community at Call For Evidence earlier in 2025.
Here are our initial comments on what’s included:-
MAN v FAT is pleased to see that there is now a dedicated men’s health strategy, and is excited to see what this means in practice for men in the UK.
We believe it is vital that health services are relevant and accessible to men, and this is something MAN v FAT has been championing as an organization for the past eleven years. We recognize that there is a real barrier to men making changes to their diet, physical activity levels and managing their mental health, so it’s great to see this policy now catching up with some of the innovators in the men’s health sector.
We are particularly pleased to see increased resources on suicide prevention and mental health, which statistics show is clearly essential for men of all ages, and it is also encouraging that the strategy clearly sets a goal of moving from disease to prevention.
Supporting preventive health will mean that we have fewer men who need to access the more important goals of health provision and reduce pressure in these areas – something that will benefit not only men, but the wider population as well.
We look forward to working with the government and other partners in the men’s health sector to ensure this policy is operational for men and boys in the UK.
We will continue to advocate for our community, evolving MAN v FAT as a best-in-class offering for men looking for support with their weight and well-being.
